couple of days back, The representatives, heads of monasteries, head of
institutes, community leaders and public celebrated 52nd Tibetan
Democracy Day with a long list of speeches from Kashag and Tibetan
parliament in exile and the various speakers spoke width and length
about the importance of democracy and so on and so forth. Behind this
scene, important people are aware that Bylakuppe settlement does not
have a local assembly for last many years and people demand ask for it
but who is there to listen? As it says that the local assembly is
one of the pillars for meaningful democracy at the local level. How
beautifully the dignitaries have delivered the speeches and addressed
the importance of democracy ! But the question is that what is the point
of celebrating democracy day, if there isn't a local assembly at local
level for many years. Who is responsible? To initiate and establish a
local assembly in the settlement. Nobody dares to speak or nobody cares
to speak! We say to the world that Dalai Lama have gifted a democracy
to the Tibetans but I don't think that the Dalai Lama has asked us to
store that gift without using it. He didn't ask us to store that gift,
it's precious. I wonder whether he is aware of such situation in Tibetan
settlement. Kalons,
MPs and dignitaries have visited the settlement with the promise that
they will go to center and study on it and find a solution for it. The
truth is that there is nothing to study, concern department has to just
order the concern Dept to hold an election and start a local assembly.
Maybe some groups or society are pressurizing the administration not to
interfere, so that they can freak out whatever they wish, however they
wish? In the absent of people's representatives! To whom to ask for our right? We don't have speaker to reach our voice to the concern. Who is to consider if nobody cares for it? Palden Sangpo is a social worker with Social Action Movement.
